TVXQ, in short for Tong Vfang Xien Qi, is a South Korean Pop group which debuted in 2003 under the management of SM Entertainment. In South Korea however, they’re also known as Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK). Their band name literally means “The Rising Gods of the East”.

The group consist of five members, namely the leader YunhoJaejoongJunsuYoochun and Changmin. They debuted on December 26th, 2003 at Britney Spears and BoA’s showcase concert. They performed ‘Holy Night’, and their debut song <Hug>.

Throughout the years, the five of them have proven that they have amazing talent on and off stage, with great personalities, beautiful voices,  sweet harmonization, powerful dances and an amazing image. Each of them is unique in their own ways. Something interesting, this 30 fun facts about TVXQ! xD A song that shows off all these is Mirotic, which is one of my favorites 🙂 Though the lyrics were later said to be inappropriate, the song was still a hit! 😀

So far, they have released 4 albums, from 2003-2008, before the  controversy between three of the members and their management agency, SMent in 2009. They also made their debut in Japan in 2008, with “Break out”, which nevertheless is another big hit! TVXQ also held many “sold-out” concerts all over the world, which proved how far their popularity had grown through the years.

Cassiopeia is the official global fan club for TVXQ. The color that represents them is red. It is a constellation of five stars that form a “W” on the night sky. Coincidentally, the word “TVfXQ” also forms a “W” when traced on a computer keyboard. Cassiopeia is regarded as “The Queen”, and the famous line among fellow Cassiopeia during the controversy period was “Always keep the faith” (‘:

As of now, due to the controversy mentioned above, TVXQ no longer has five members ): Instead the group is split into two, with three members joining another agency and forming another group JYJ- in short for Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu. The remaining two, Yunho and Changmin chose to remain under SM, so they are still using the name TVXQ. Fans reacted strongly to this at first, and one fan even committed suicide, leaving behind a suicide note saying “she’ll always protect TVXQ no matter what” .__.  Though it is close to impossible, most Cassiopeias are still keeping the faith, waiting for the day that TVXQ will reunite as 5 (“:

Super Junior – The last men standing!

30 Nov

From top left (clockwise): Shindong, Ryeowook, Yesung, Kyuhyun, Leeteuk(Leader), Kangin, Donghae, Siwon, Sungmin, Hankyung, Heechul, Eunhyuk

Super Junior, formed by SM Entertainment, is made up of 13 members, with Leeteuk being the oldest & Kyuhyun the youngest. The group debuted with 12 members, namely Leeteuk (Leader), HeechulHankyung (Chinese member), YesungKanginShindongSungminEunhyukDonghaeSiwonRyeowookKibum & Kyuhyun joined in May 2006. As Super Junior was initially supposed to be a project group, with different members each year, they debuted with the name Super Junior 05. However, at the end of 2006, SM Entertainment decided not to remove any members, & Kyuhyun was added to the group. Since then, the group became known as Super Junior, without the “05”.

Because the group consist of 13 members, which was more than two times the size of a normal Korean boyband, SM Entertainment decided to form sub-units to better showcase the group’s potential.

Super Junior – K.R.Y was the first sub-unit to be formed. The group debuted on November 5, 2006 with a performance of the Hyena theme song “The One I Love.” It consist of members Kyuhyun, Ryeowook & Yesung, & thats how you get the name K.R.Y. The group is a ballad group, & the 3 members are the best vocalist in Super Junior.

Super Junior – Trot the second sub-unit, debuted on February 23, 2007 with their first single “Rokuko” comprising of members Leeteuk, Heechul, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin & Eunhyuk. The purpose of this sub-unit is to revive the dying trend of trot music by producing an idol band that capitalizes this genre.

Super Junior – M was introduced on October 2, 2007. This sub-unit was formed to reach out to the Chinese market. The response towards the formation of this group was very negative at first, as 2 additional Chinese members, Henry & Zhoumi was added to the group. However, it later became a success in China. The members in this group are Hankyung, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeoweok, Kyuhyun, Henry & Zhoumi. However, due to Hankyung’s lawsuit with SM Entertainment, in December 2009, all the group’s activities were halted. On February 2011, after Hankyung left SM Entertainment, Super Junior members Sungmin & Eunhyuk were announced as new additions to the group & they released their 2nd Mini Album “Perfection”, which was a huge success! Currently, the 8 active members are Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, Henry & Zhoumi.

With half of Super Junior members busy promoting in China, Super Junior Happy was formed that same year to prevent Super Junior from disappearing in the Korean music industry. The members includes Super Junior T & Yesung, & they debuted with “Cooking? Cooking!” in June 5, 2008. They promoted the group & their song for 4 months.

Now, you may think they’re just another one of those korean boyband, but truth is, they aren’t. The reason why they are so popular is because Super Junior is made up of members who shine individually yet make the group wholesome. They’re sincere towards their fans, honest towards one another, and respectful towards their seniors in the same industry.

The members are all actively involved in singing, acting, DJ-ing, MC-ing, and for the past few years, have appeared in many different variety programs. My favorite show would be Super junior full house! It’s a show where the members had to learn some basic english. The show was so hilarious from the very first episode that it makes it difficult for one not to continue watching! xD Another recommended show to watch would be Super Junior Super Adonis. It’s a reality program where a few of the members go on a holiday to a resort at the outskirts of Seoul together with an annoying lady -.- But overall, another full of funny antics program! xD

Super Junior released many albums since their debut in 2005, and the album i like best is their latest album “Mr. Simple”, because the lyrics to the songs in the album are meaningful :’) Especially the title track “Mr. Simple”  and “Memories”, which is composed by the members themselves 😀 Just recently, “Mr Simple” album was crowned ‘Album of the year’ at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)!

Lastly, Super Junior’s fans!!

E.L.F.s - Everlasting Friends

Super Junior’s fans are called “Everlasting friends” or E.L.Fs, because super junior believes that their fans and them will be friends and support them forever! Blue is the band’s color. And, normally people spell ‘believe’ this way, however E.L.Fs spell ’13elieve’ instead because Super junior has 13 members, and even though there are only 8 active members now – with 2 serving the army, 1 into the acting industry and another who left due to contract issues- their fans will always believe and wait for the day Super Junior will stand as 13 together on the same stage ❤

SS501 – Super Stars five as one

24 Nov

From left to right: Park Jungmin, Kim Hyungjun, Kim Hyunjoong (Leader), Heo Youngsaeng, Kim Kyujong

SS501 (pronounced as Double-S Five-Oh-One or Deo Beul E Seu Oh Gong Il, 더블에스오공일) is a South Korean Boyband under Daesung Entertainment, also known as DSP entertainment. The first S in SS501 stands for ‘Super’, the second S ‘Star’, and the numbers 501 symbolizes ‘five members united as one forever’.  Since the group calls themselves ‘Superstars’, their fans became known as “Triple S”, which is short for ‘Super Star Supporters’. Meaningful name for a fanclub right? (:

The group consist of 5 members namely: Kim Hyun Joong (Leader), Heo Young SaengKim Kyu JongPark Jung Min and Kim Hyung Jun. Kim Hyung Jun was chosen first, so received the most amount of official training while he waited for his fellow members to be picked. Kim Hyun Joong was chosen next, hand picked by the casting director himself. Kim Kyu Jong was chosen through a round of auditions along with Park Jung Min, who had worked previously as a VJ. Heo Young Saeng was last to be chosen. He was discovered after a friend of his suggested that he go for an audition. The 5 members went through fierce musical and dance trainings before they could perform as a band.

SS501 made their debut on 8th June 2005 with their title song “Warning” from their first full album S.T.01 Now. They had promotional activities mostly in Korea, including a first solo concert in 2006.

And in 2007, they made their debut in the Japanese market, releasing their first Japanese Album titled “All my love”. Throughout the years, they held mini concerts and fanmeetings, made appearance and hosted in reality & variety programs. The reality program that made me idolize them was KM M!pick, which was a reality program that films their daily activities 3 months before their debut, and 3 months after their debut. Through that reality program – though they were sometimes caught on camera fooling around and slacking away- traits such as caring, kind hear-ted, honest, respectful, humorous etc were shown, and i think  that was how they gained such a strong fan-base. Ever since i watched M!pick, i became a Triple S 😀

Albums & Singles released from 2005 - 2011

They also released many more singles and albums, such as “Deja vu”, “Find”, “Rebirth” and “Destination” being the last mini album they released before their contract with DSP ended in late 2010. Thereafter, each of them released their own solo albums which were equally successful! Their song genres are mostly pop, but they do have a few ballads and RnB included as well. I personally like ballads and RNBs, so a few of my favorite songs by them are “Wings of the world”, “Only one day”, “Love like this”, “Love ya” and “Green Peas” which is a song they personally composed for their fans. Oh by the way, the first music video by SS501 that caught my attention was “YOU’RE MY HEAVEN”! It’s a very nice  music video, to me that is!

Now, all the members are in different management agencies carrying out their own solo activities, but the band is not disbanded. They will make a comeback in late 2012! 😀
